Self Image is Powerful

Self image is powerful. This video has been floating around facebook over the last day or so and you may have already seen it. Obviously, new clothes and a haircut can't cure alcoholism or fix our problems. But the ability to see yourself as the best person you can be, or the person you wish you were can make a real difference. You gain self-worth, self-respect and others see it in you.

Headshots Everywhere!

This falls under the category of random stuff I see. 

Here's the story; I bought a new suit over the weekend and with my purchase, I got some nice take-away swag.  One of the items was a nice shaving kit from The Art of Shaving.  Inside the box was a $25 coupon, and on the reverse side of it was this image. 

Here's why it's important to me.  The one thing I do most with my headshot work is to get people to engage their mouth, eyes & eyebrows.  Those are the three things on our face we have control over, and those are the three things that show our emotion, mood & feeling.  I coach people every day with how to manipulate the features on their face to convey a look of confidence with approachability in a still photo. 

The strong shadowing is a bit extreme for what I do, but this guy is definitely engaging all three features.

Inspire and Teach Others

I made this image just now and posted it to my Facebook page.  I believe strongly in giving back.  I'm starting to reach a point where more and more people are seeking knowledge from me and I'm trying to sort it all out and make as many people happy as I can.

March 2013 Cover of GQ

 

I'm always looking through magazines at different expression people make.  The March 2013 cover of GQ shows Bruce Willis delivering a look of relaxed confidence with a touch of understated badass while still remaining approachable.  If you think about it, these are fairly complex things that most mortals can't pull off by themselves.  That's where a good photographer comes in.  We use words and phrases that promote different feelings and emotions.  We coach you into a pose that makes you look cool, then work the expression in subtle detail until you have it.  Gentlemen, what does your head shot say about you?

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. It's the photographer's responsibility to get good, marketable expressions.  In this case, photographer, Mario Testino nailed it.

My Guest Video Blog for Alpha M Consulting

This is a video I made recently for Aaron Marino at Alpha M Consulting.  Aaron is a pal of mine and runs a successful image consulting company in Atlanta, GA.  He was blogging to his members recently about sharing pictures on social media and how important it is to realize the message those pictures are sending.  I called him up and told him how much I agreed with him and we both agreed that I should make a video explaining the importance of making a good first impression on social media.

US Airspace Is Closed To Unmanned Drones Doing Real Estate Photography

This is a shame.  Aerial photography and video is a booming business especially in the higher-end markets.  I hope the FAA relaxes it's license requirements for photographers and film makers.

Seattle Head Shot Photographer - Rachel Blooper Video
